Four drug peddlers arrested in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 25 (Agency) Jammu and Kashmir police arrested four drug peddlers and recovered contraband substance in the Kashmir valley during the past 24 hours, a police spokesman said. He said continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police in series of actions in Anantnag and Budgam have arrested four drug peddlers and recovered contraband substance from their possession.

He said a checkpoint established at Nanil in Anantnag by police during which a suspicious person was intercepted who tried to flee from the spot. However, he was apprehended tactfully by the alert party, spokesman said adding during his search police recovered 500gms of Cannabis Powder and 9 Kgs of Cannabis Straw from his possession. He has been identified as Bilal Ahmad Lone resident of Kreedizal Nanil Anantnag. He said similarly, police at a checkpoint established at Khanabal Chowk intercepted a person namely Nisar Ahmad Ganie resident of T B Shah Harnag and recovered 140 grams of Charas from his possession. He said in Budgam, a checkpoint was established at Agrikalan and Kawoosa Khalisa during which two persons identified as Samir Ahmad Sheikh resident of Malangam Bandipora and Sameer Ahmed Sofi resident of Zainakot HMT Srinagar were intercepted. During search, police recovered 365 grams of Charas from their possession.

All the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations, he said adding accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigation is in progress. Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
