IMD predicts severe heatwave over East, South Peninsular India for next 5 days

New Delhi, April 26 (UNI) Heatwave to severe heat wave conditions will continue to prevail over East and South Peninsular India for the next 5 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday.According to IMD, parts of the Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and isolated pockets in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal will witness heatwave to severe heatwave conditions for the next 5 days. “Heat wave conditions are likely in isolated pockets over Bihar, Jharkhand, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and East Uttar Pradesh during the next 5 days; over Kerala and Mahe during 26th–28th April; and over Konkan.during 27th–29th April and West Uttar Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam during 28th–30th April,“ the IMD said.

The weather department also predicted a fresh spell of rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds likely over the Western Himalayan Region, the plains of Northwest India, and adjoining Central India until April 28th. Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall and snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh, and isolated rainfall is likely over Uttarakhand till April 29th, with the possibility of hailstorms over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on the 26th and Himachal Pradesh from 26th–28th April and Uttarakhand on 28th and 29th April, the IMD said.

Isolated to scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and winds gusting up to 50 kmph is very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi during April 26–28 and over Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh on April 26. The IMD also forecast a duststorm over West Rajasthan for today. Fairly widespread to widespread light rainfall accompanied by isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) is likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from 26th-30th April, the IMD said. Isolated light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over Sikkim on April 28, 2024, it added, Strong surface winds up to 35 kmph are also very likely to prevail over Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and south Rajasthan on April 26th and 27th.
