Naveen appeals all legislators of Odisha to unanimously extend support to elect Draupadi

Bhubaneswar, June 22 (Agency) Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday appealed to all members of the Odisha Legislative Assembly to extend their support to elect Draupadi Murmu, the daughter of the state to the country’s highest office. In a tweet, Patnaik, who is at present in Italy said ‘’ Appeal all the members of Odisha Legislative Assembly, cutting across party lines to extend unanimous support to elect the daughter of #Odisha-Smt #DraupadiMurmu to the country’s highest office. Soon after BJP announced the name of Draupadi Murmu on Tuesday as the NDA candidate for the country’s top post Patnaik said he was delighted when Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed this with him.

It is indeed a proud moment for the people of Odisha. Earlier on Tuesday, the United opposition announced the name of former Union Finance and External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha as its candidate for the top constitutional post. After the announcement of the name of Draupadi Murmu congratulations and good wishes came from different parts of the state. The teachers and students of the Unit-2 government school at Bhubaneswar where she was studying celebrated it by distributing sweets. Hundreds of people from all walks of life gathered at her residence at Rairagpur and congratulated her. BJP MP Aparjita Sarangi said the nomination of Draupadi Murmu for the top post of the country is a matter of pride for 104 crore Odisha people.
