Delhi to track pollution sources in realtime by Aug

New Delhi, May 19 (FN Agency) To aid identify polluting sources, the Delhi government will set up a super-site monitoring facility of Real Time Source Apportionment System on Pandara Road by August, officials said. The announcement comes just days after the capital touched near 50 degrees Celsius that the MeT said was due to uncontrolled pollution factors. In addition to the super-site, a mobile laboratory will also be launched there, they added. The announcement was made by IIT Kanpur in a review meeting held on Thursday at the Delhi Secretariat which Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai chaired.

The meeting was attended by the experts and officials from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), according to a statement issued by the state government. The project will help in identifying sources of pollution in real-time and significantly reduce them by enabling appropriate control measures. Divulging details about the review meeting, Rai said the super-site will also forecast about the city pollution level. “It will help in determining the true sources of pollution in Delhi. In addition, starting in August, real-time pollution factors will be assessed in Delhi, which will aid in the formulation of a strategy to control that source of pollution,” he added. The Environment Minister also informed that through its apportionment system, Delhi will become the first city to identify the source of air pollution in real time. “It will aid in the comprehension of pollution sources such as vehicles, dust, biomass burning, stubble burning, and industrial emissions. Based on these findings, the Delhi government will be able to take the necessary steps to reduce pollution from specific sources,” he added.
