CPWD Executive engineer, 2 others arrested by CBI in bribery case

Chennai, June 10 (Representative) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested an Executive Engineer, CPWD, Zonal Office, Madurai in Tamil Nadu and two private persons in an alleged bribery case. The arrested were CPWD Executive Engineer V L Bhaskar, Proprietor of M/s Brahma Developers P N Sivasankar Raja and P Narayanan of S K Electricals, Chennai. A CBI release here said the agency registered a case against Bhaskar and others, including Raja and Narayanan on allegations that the Executive Engineer conspired with the said contractors for receipt of illegal gratification of Rs.50,000 for clearing the bills of the private firm and another Rs one lakh for the purpose of refunding the GST.

During the trap proceedings, Rs.70,000 was recovered from Bhaskar which he had demanded and accepted from the contractors. The public servant and the other duo were arrested. Searches were conducted at the premises of Executive Engineer at Madurai which led to the recovery of about Rs.1,85,000 cash said to be kept in different covers and allegedly received by him from various other contractors. All the arrested accused were produced today before the Special Judge for CBI Cases, Madurai and were remanded in judicial custody.
