Textbook revision: BJP calls Cong ministers communists

Bengaluru, June 10 (Agency) The BJP on Friday slammed the Congress ministers in Karnataka for their plan to revise school textbooks by saying that they basically are communists and do not encourage nationalistic views. “Now they want to divert the attention of the people by picking up on school textbooks. Siddaramaiah is a so-called self-declared educationist, basically, they are communists. They don’t encourage any nationalistic views,” BJP leader and former state education minister B C Nagesh told reporters here.Nagesh said the BJP government removed lessons on Nehru and chopped off some lessons on Tipu Sultan, and added chapters that develop nationalistic feelings in students.

“Though Congress ruled India for many years, they are unconcerned about the education system. We were practising the same system framed by Macaulay,” he said. BJP leader CT Ravi flayed the government and said that it can change the syllabus, but not the history. “Everyone knows about Sangh Parivar’s patriotism. Everywhere Sangh Parivar’s ideology is getting stronger, and it cannot be changed,” he said. Karnataka Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa on Friday said that school textbooks in the state will be revised this year, and a similar decision will be made in the cabinet.
