‘If not guilty, then why running away from JPC’ : Cong to govt on Adani issue

New Delhi, Mar 28 (Agency) The Congress on Tuesday accused the BJP-led government in the Centre of running away from a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Adani issue, and said it does not want to listen anything on the alleged ‘scam’. Several Opposition parties including Congress have been demanding a JPC probe into the Hindenburg Research report on Adani Group which alleged that it had engaged in stock manipulation and accounting fraud schemes over the course of decades. Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, Congress general secretary in-charge of Organisation and MP KC Venugopal said, “This government does not want to listen anything on Adani.

Our demand is a JPC probe on this ‘biggest scam’. If the government is not guilty, then why is it running away from the JPC.” “This Budget session totally washed out by the government protest, not by the Opposition protest. BJP has dedicated this Budget session for Adani,” Venugopal said in an apparent reference to ‘logjam’ in Parliament. Referring to former Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from Lok Sabha as a member, and then notice to vacate his official bungalow, the senior party leader attacking the ruling dispensation said, “The way in which they are doing all these process is to ‘intimidate’ Rahul Gandhi because he is continuously questioning the connection between Adani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We are not going to get scared by all these tactics.” He also announced that the party will launch ‘Jai Bharat Satyagraha’ starting from March 29 to April 8 in protest against the erroneous conviction and disqualification of Rahul Gandhi, and to express the Congress resolve to keep raising the voice of the people against the “blatant loot of the people’s money and nation’s wealth by Adani.”

All block/mandal Congress units will hold ‘nukkad sabhas’ under the ‘Jai Bharat Satyagraha’ banner and address the public on relevant issues, he added. Later this evening, Venugopal in a series of tweets wrote, “The Delhi Police is stopping us from taking out the Loktantra Bachao Mashal Shanti March from Red fort.” “Many senior leaders, along with our energetic and dedicated youth cadre were marching towards Red Fort, but the barbaric Delhi Police tried its best to stall our peaceful march. PM Modi and Shah should know, we will not step back from our fight. Bring it on!,” he said. Echoing a similar sentiment, Congress general secretary in-charge Communications Jairam Ramesh said,”Our voices are being silenced inside and outside the Parliament. This is murder of democracy.” Meanwhile, the Congress party alleged that many of its leaders were detained.
