BJP, RSS ‘incapable’ of looking at future: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi/New York, June 5 (FN Bureau) Stepping up his attack on the BJP and RSS, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said they are “incapable” of looking at the future and they only talk about the past. “The BJP and RSS are ‘incapable’ of looking at the future. They only look at the past,” he said, while addressing the Indian diaspora here on Sunday. The former Congress president further said, “BJP, RSS, Prime Minister and (Cabinet) ministers, they never talk about the future, they only talk about the past. They will always ‘blame’ somebody else for the past.” “There is a fight going on back home (in India). A fight between two ideologies, one that we represent, and the other the BJP and RSS represents. The simplest way to describe this fight is one side you have Mahatma Gandhi and on the other side you have Nathuram Godse,” he said.

Rahul, who has been accusing the BJP and RSS of doing “divisive” politics, said, “The reason Godse shot (Mahatma) Gandhi was that he could not face reality of his own life. So, he had to take out his anger on somebody. Gandhi ji was modern, forward looking and open-minded. Godse never spoke about the future, he only spoke about the past. At the heart he was a ‘coward’. We follow the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi, not hatred.” “We are not being violent , we are not being aggressive. That is our strength . You cannot cut hatred with hatred , its impossible. Your work is to spread hatred, our work is to spread love and affection. We are all following the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi and Ambedkar,” he said, attacking the BJP.

Claiming that there is an “attack” on the democratic structure of our country by the ruling dispensation, he said, “There is a challenge in India. There is a ‘full- scale’ attack on our institutions, judiciary and media. It is our responsibility to defend the idea of India.”Rahul, who is on a six-day US tour, added, “The Central piece of idea of India is our Constitution and democracy.Modern India cannot exist without Constitution and democracy. “Referring to the recent Odisha train tragedy, Rahul, who has demanded the resignation of the railway minister, said, “During our government (Congress-led UPA), our minister had resigned after a train tragedy taking the responsibility.”
