Eight killed in road accident

Kaushambi, Dec 2 (Representative) At least 8 people were killed when a stone chips laden truck fell on a SUV near Devganj crossing under Karahadham police station here on Wednesday morning. The SUV was carrying 10 people from a marriage party.

District Magistrate Amit Singh, who reached on the spot monitoring the rescue work, has confirmed of 8 deaths. While 7 people died on the spot, a woman succumbed to her injury at the hospital. Police said 2 people reported to be still entrapped inside the SUV. The accident occurred when the truck overturned after one of its tyre bursted. The SUV was engaged in a marriage function in the family of a Lekhpal of Sirathu area and went for the marriage in Kokhraj area. Among the dead are Lekhpal’s wife and daughter. The DM said that rescue work was underway and compensation would be given to the deceased family as per the norms. Meanwhile Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has condoled the death of the people in Kaushambi accident and has directed the district authorities to provide all assistance to the injured.
