Two gunrunners held with 15 pistols and 30 live cartridges in Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 26 (Agency) Delhi Police’s Special Cell arrested two men and recovered 15 semi-automatic pistols and 30 live cartridges from their possession, police said on Tuesday. The Special Cell launched a drive against illegal arms suppliers in Delhi and NCR to curb weapons to reach gangsters. For this, concerted efforts were made to identify the members of the syndicates. A team of Special Cell was having information about the firearms trafficking activities in Delhi which was being run by Haryana’s Mewat-based gang members. The accused have been identified as Shakir (28) and Zunaid Khan (21). Both are residents of Haryana’s Nuh district.

On Monday evening, two gun runners were arrested near Surajkund Turning MB Road in Delhi. During the search, 15 semi automatic pistols and 30 live cartridges were recovered from them. The police got specific information that Shakir would come near Surajkund Turning MB Road in Delhi in the evening to deliver arms consignment to Zunaid. Acting on this tip-off, a trap was laid near the aforementioned location. At around 5:25 pm, police noticed a suspicious man carrying a backpack was coming towards Surajkund Turning. He was identified as Shakir by the informer. After 5 minutes, another man, identified as Zunaid, arrived near Shakir who handed over a bag to Zunaid. At the same time, both were surrounded and overpowered by the cops, said Jasmeet Singh, DCP, Special Cell Delhi. During questioning, they told police that the arms were procured from Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone and supplying the consignment to the gangsters in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh for the last 3 years, said Singh.
