Thane: ‘Baba’ held for cheating woman of over Rs 4 lakh

Thane, Jul 12 (Agency) The Navi Mumbai police arrested one “Baba Bangali” originally of Meerut of UP for allegedly cheating a 26-year-old woman from Kharghar and extracting Rs. 4.57 lakhs from her the police said. Talking to UNI, senior Inspector at the Crime Unit II Giridhar Gore told that the victim was depressed as her love failed. In February, she saw the posters of healer Baba Bangali on the local trains and contacted him.

The Baba- Baba Kabir Khan Bangali (33)- informed her that for her lover to agree for the marriage and break his new proposal she would be required to do black magic at Meerut Dargah, and offer animals including goats to the deity for which she would be required to spend Rs. 4.57 lakhs. The accused took the money from her in installments but nothing happened thereafter and the victim did not not get any results and when she questioned about the same to him and asked for the money back and said that she would complain to the police. He warned her not approach the police else he would use black magic and ruin her and bring about an accident of her. Having been cheated the woman filed a complaint with the Kharghar police which was converted into a case under sections 420,417,506 and 507 of the IPC and also section 03 of the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013. Acting on a tip-off, the cops laid a trap and nabbed the accused on Sunday. The victim had never seen him in person as she made digital payments, apprised police.
