Thane: 3 held in Rs 1.37 cr robbery case

Thane, Mar 31 (Agency) With the arrest of three persons, all hailing from Jharkhand, the city police on Wednesday claimed to have detected the theft at a jewellery shop to the tune of Rs 1.37 crores. Senior Inspector Kishore Khairnar of the Kasarwadavali police station told that it was in the intervening night of January 16/17, some unidentified persons broke into the jewellery shop at Vartak Nagar and stole jewellery worth Rs. 1,37,02,100. An offence under sections 454,457,380 rw 34 of the IPC was registered with the Vartak Nagar police then.

Since then the city police had launched a manhunt for those involved in the housebreaking theft but of no no avail. Just a couple of days back, the police team at Kasarwadavali police station got a tip off that the accused involved in the crime were to travel from Loknayak Jayaprakash Airport, Patna to CSMIA at Mumbai by flight. Acting on the tip off, a team of police officers lead by PI Jairaj Ranaware laid a trap at the Mumbai airport and nabbed the trio at the airport itself.

The police gave their names as Sultan Shaikh, 29, Abdul Shaikh, 34 and Alamgir Shaikh, 33. The police said that initial interrogation revealed that they were involved in the house breaking theft at the jewellery shop. The police are presently trying to recover the stolen booty. The police said that the trio planned to loot a jewellery shop at Pune in the night but their plans were foiled. The police are also trying to find out if there were any others involved in the Thane crime.
