Kathua police foils smuggling attempt, rescues 16 bovines

Jammu, Jul 1 (Agency) Police on Thursday foiled a smuggling attempt and rescued 16 bovines at Lakhanpur on Punjab-Jammu and Kashmir gateway in Kathua district. A senior police officer said that a police team led by Inspector Sumeet Sharma, Station House Officer, Police Station, Lakhanpur, under the supervision Dy SP DAR Kathua Sukhdev Singh, noticed a closed truck and stopped it for checking.

He said 16 bovines were found in the truck. “The truck driver fled away from the spot,” he added. A case has been registered and investigation started. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kathua, Ramesh Kotwal has directed the officers to keep a check on illegal smuggling of bovines and take stern action against the culprits, he said.
