New Delhi, Oct 11 (Representative) Delhi Police has arrested five men for allegedly duping people by impersonating themselves as customer care executives of the bank. A complaint was lodged with the police where a man alleged that his Axis Bank credit card was not working, hence he requested support from the bank concerned through a social media post. On the same day, he received a call from a toll free number, who said that he was calling regarding bank credit card service. As directed by the representative, the complainant followed the instruction, after that amount Rs 90,157 had been deducted from his credit card. After seeing the amount deducted, the victim approached the cyber cell. On the basis of complaint, a case was registered at Farsh Bazar Police Station, a senior police official said.
The police collected relevant information and analyzed the data as provided by the bank and telecom company and caught the entire gang including account holder, SIM provider, middle-man, ATM card operator, calling person, said police. The police said the gang used to call to the mobile number which was used while registering the complaint with the concerned bank on social media. After taking details from an online site, the cheaters used to make the spoofed call by using App “X-lite” and “ Eyebeam”. By using this software, they were able to display the toll free number of Banks on the mobile screen of the target victim. Thereafter, the gang would transfer the cheated amount by using the details of the victim’s credit card onto the website “housing.com, the police added. The accused have been identified as Anish Khan (29), a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr; Sahil (23) of Noida; Vikas Kumar (32) of Sangam Vihar; Sandeep Kumar Singh (32) of Sangam Vihar, and Harish Tiwari (29) of Delhi’s Dakshinpuri.
