Fake call centre busted; 6 held for cheating

Palghar, Jul 9 (Agency) A fake call centre, operating in a residential locality in the Ambadi road Vasai here, was busted and six persons were arrested in the same connection, the police said on Friday. DCP crime of the MBVV police Dr. Mahesh Patil told that the Cyber Cell police of the police commissionerate on a tip of and complaint raided the premises and nabbed the inmates red-handed. The arrested have been booked under sections 420,406 rw 34 of the IPC and also section 66(‘C) and 66(D) of the IT Act on Friday, he said. The accused have been identified Aadil Memon, 28 ( owner of the call center), Hussian Bundiwalla, 22, Hufeza Bahanerwala, 23, Murtaza Bandarpurwalla, 19, Abdeli Izi, 21 and Hussain Sanzanwwalla, 23.

The police seized as many as 16 mobiles and 48 sim cards from the arrested. Explaining the modus operandi, the police said that the accused contacted the mobile users from different parts of the country and asked them to invest in the Forex trading with the help of Google Pay and other similar apps, promising to get them good returns. The accused informed the victims that they have gained good profit and asked them to make payments in the different bank accounts and thus cheated lakhs of investors. The police said that the accused made use of the 10 different accounts of nationalised as well as private banks. The police also said that one more offence registered against the accused at Sonari police station of Jamshedpur, East Singhbum, in Jharkhand, under section 420,406 rw 34 of the IPC prior to the one in Vasai has also been detected during the course of interrogation.
