2 drug peddlers arrested in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jul 20 (Agency) Police on Tuesday arrested two drug peddlers and recovered huge quantity of contraband from them in twin south Kashmir districts of Anantnag and Kulgam. A police spokesperson said following specific information about transportation of drugs, a checkpoint was established at Arwani Bijbehara in Anantnag. ”Police intercepted a person at the checkpoint and during checking, recovered 1.1 kg of charas power from him,” he said. He said the accused, identified as Fayaz Ahmad Khanday, was immediately taken into custody. He said on credible information regarding drug peddling at Khanpora Nagam of Kulgam, a police party raided a specific location in the area. ”During search, officers were able to recover 24 Kgs of Poppy Pods from the residential house of Ghulam Ahmad Mir,” he said.

He said Mir was immediately taken into custody. ”Preliminary investigation reveals that the accused person is a notorious drug peddler and the recovered drugs were meant to be supplied to the youth of the area to make them drug addicts,” the spokesperson said. He said cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective Police Stations and further investigations have been initiated. ”Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood,” he said, adding persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. ”Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” he added.
