New Delhi, Sep 1 (FN Bureau) Days after the price of piped cooking gas was raised, oil marketing companies have hiked the price of a non-subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder by Rs 25 with effect from September 1, adding to the woes of the consumers. An industry source said the revised prices would soon be put on the websites of the companies after required approval. Accordingly, the price of a non-subsidised 14.2 kg LPG cylinder will now be Rs 884.50 in Delhi. This is the second price hike undertaken by the oil marketing companies within a month. On August 18, the companies had hiked the price of an LPG cylinder by Rs 25.
With the latest increase, the price of a non-subsidised LPG cylinder would be the highest in Kolkata followed by Chennai. Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to slam the government over the rise in the price of LPG gas cylinder. In his usual one-liner on the micro-blogging site, Gandhi wrote (in Hindi), “The one who forces the poor to sleep empty stomach is sleeping in the comforting embrace of his friends.” “But the nation is uniting against the injustice,” he wrote. concluding his tweet with the hashtag #IndiaAgainstBJPLoot.
