New Delhi, Jan 31 (FN Bureau) Appreciating the innovative efforts made by the villages of Haryana and Hyderabad to prevent damage caused to the environment from bio-degradable wastes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the citizens were showing the way to the world to convert waste to wealth. Addressing the 73rd episode of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ Mr Modi said, ‘An amazing feat has been achieved by the Badaut village panchayat of Panchkula in Haryana by using dirty water for irrigation, after filtration. ‘People of Badaut were facing the problem of water drainage. The dirty water was spilling around, spreading diseases.
The Village Panchayat started filtering the dirty water coming from the village and this filtered water is now being used for irrigation, thereby, liberating them from pollution, filth and disease, besides irrigating the fields,’ he added. Talking about another innovation, Mr Modi said, ‘I felt very happy on learning about how a local vegetable market in Bowenpally of Hyderabad generated electricity from leftover vegetables. This is the power of innovation! ‘What was once a waste, has been turned into wealth. Nearly 10 ton of waste is turned into 500 units of electricity and about 30 kg of bio fuel. The vegetable market is illuminated through this electricity and the bio fuel is used to cook food in the market canteen – isn’t this a wonderful effort!,’ he added.
