Sensex down 427.44 pts

Mumbai, Jan 21 (Agency) The equity market remained under pressure for the fourth consecutive session on Friday, as the BSE Sensex lost 427.44 pts to settle below 60K at 59,037.18 following selling in Telecom, IT and Consumer Durable stocks. The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too declined 139.85 pts at 17,617.15. The sectoral indices like Consumer Durable, Telecom, IT and Consumer Discretionary Goods and Services dragged the market further. The Sensex registered day’s high and low at 59,329.63 and 58,620.93 respectively.

The Nifty recorded the day’s high and low at 17,707.60 and 17,485.85 respectively. In scrips, Bajaj Finserv tumbled down 5.37 pc to Rs 16,333.05 a major loser in 30 scrips of BSE. Other losers were Tech Mahindra by 4.44 pc to Rs 1594.15, Tata Steel by 3.18 pc to Rs 1169.05, Bharti Airtel by 2.83 pc to Rs 695.05 and IndusInd Bank by 2.77 pc to Rs 853.95. The gainers were Hind Unilever by 2.68 pc to Rs 2322.20, Maruti Suzuki by 1.89 pc to Rs 8188.60, HDFC by 1.02 pc to Rs 2595 and Nestle India by 0.95 pc to Rs 18,396.05. The Mid Cap slipped 2.01 pc and Small Cap by 1.96 pc. In 30 scrips, 8 rose and 22 declined.
