Lucknow, Sep 30 (Representative) Expressing gratitude towards the party workers for being appointed as the national president for the third time, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday said that SP will be given the status of a national party only by taking forward the ideology of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia and Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar. During the national convention of the party held at Ramabai Ambedkar ground, Akhilesh called upon the party workers to take forward the ideas of Dr Lohia and Dr Ambedkar and take a pledge to get national party status for SP. It may be noted that during the two-day convention of the party, the state-level convention was held on the first day on Wednesday. During the state level convention Naresh Uttam Patel was re-elected as the state unit president. On the second day national general secretary Prof Ram Gopal Verma, who was appointed as returning officer to conduct the election of national president, announced that Akhilesh elected for the third time in a row. He said that as other than Akhilesh no other candidate filed nomination, therefore he has been elected unanimously.
Addressing the party workers, Akhilesh said, “Today the existence of all the constitutional institutions of the country is in danger. In such circumstances it is the responsibility of all of us to save the democracy of such a country. For this we should leave after taking a pledge to make SP a national party.” He called upon the workers to carry forward the ideology of Babasaheb Dr Ambedkar and Dr Lohia. He said that today people who are getting associated with SP want to fulfill the dream of Babasaheb Dr Ambedkar. Akhilesh said, “Today all sections of the society, including the oppressed, downtrodden and backward, are looking towards SP with a hope, because the party is moving ahead with the ideas of Dr Lohia and Babasaheb.” Taking a dig at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the SP chief said that the party which lies has today come to power in the country and Uttar Pradesh. “Not only in the country, but in the entire world there is no party other than BJP which speaks so much lies. During Hitler’s regime there used to be a propaganda minister, but the BJP government is a lie in itself. Today on the occasion of Navratri we pray that this government starts speaking truth and stops telling lies,” he said.
Akhilesh expressed gratitude towards the workers for giving the responsibility of the post of president. “You all have given me this responsibility at a time when democracy and the Constitution in the country is in danger. Therefore we have to make a resolution that we have to write a new history in the next five years,” he said. He also attacked the Modi government on the occasion. “This government has put the people in a lot of trouble by demonetisation and GST. After that they harassed the farmers by bringing three farm laws. So many farmers committed suicide due to this and at the time of elections the government withdrew three laws only for electoral gains,” he said. Political and economic resolutions were presented during the convention. It was alleged that problems like unemployment and inflation are rampant due to wrong policies of the BJP government at the center and in UP. All SP MPs and MLAs and other public representatives, including senior leader Uday Veer Singh, Kiranmoy Nanda, Ram Gopal Yadav, Jaya Bachchan and former MP and Akhilesh’s wife Dimple Yadav were present in the national convention.
