Punjab BJP writes to EC urging polling after Feb 14

Chandigarh, Jan 16 (Agency) Punjab BJP general secretary Subhash Sharma on Sunday wrote a letter to the Election Commission demanding that the voting process in Punjab be held after February 14. State General Secretary of BJP Subhash Sharma told here that the letter says that due to the holy festival of Guru Ravidas Jayanti on February 16, a large section of the people of the state may go to Varanasi.

In such a situation, if the voting takes place, people will not be able to vote. Therefore, the party demands from the Election Commission to extend the polling to be held on February 14 in the state by a few days. Earlier, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi had also made a demand to this effect to Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Arora. He had requested that the polling be extended by at least six days. Polling for 117 assembly seats in Punjab is scheduled to be held on February 14.
