DMK, allies urges Prez to ‘sack’ TN Guv

Chennai, Nov 9 (Agency) The ruling DMK, which is at loggerheadswith Raj Bhavan on several issues, has submitted a Memorandumto President Droupady Murmu demanding ‘sacking’ of Tamil NaduGovernor R.N.Ravi.The nine-page memorandum was signed by the MPs of the DMK-ledSecular Progressive Alliance, comprising the Congress, MDMK, VCK,CPI, CPI(M) and others.In the memorandum submitted to the President’s office and copiesof which were released to the media here today, the DMK and isallies highlighted a host of issues concerning the Governor, andpointed to the 20 Bills passed in the State Assembly and pendingwith the Governor for his assent.

This included the pending NEET Bill and the one empowering theState Government to appoint Vice-Chancellors for all State-runUniversities instead of by the Governor. The memorandum said all these acts were ‘unbecoming of theGovernor.'”Clearly, Thiru R.N. Ravi has violated the oath he took under Article 159 to preserve, protect and defend the Constitutionand the law and to devote himself to the service and well beingof the people of Tamil Nadu”, it said. “Far from it, he has been instigating communal hatred, and isa threat to the peace and tranquility of the State”, it added.

“Some might even consider his statements as seditious as hisstatements bring or attempt to bring into hatred or contempt, orexcite or attempt to excite disaffection towards the Governmentestablished by law. Therefore by his conduct and actions, ThiruR.N.Ravi has proved that he is unfit to hold the Constitutional Office of Governor and therefore he deserves to be sackedimmediately”, the memorandum said. “As per Article 156(1), the Governor serves at the pleasure ofthe Hon’ble President. Therefore, we request Your Excellencyto forthwith remove Thiru R.N. Ravi from the office of Governorof Tamil Nadu and preserve the values of the Constitution andoblige”, it said.
