Divisive forces trying to destabilize Punjab: Sukhbir

New Delhi, Mar 22 (FN Agency) Former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday alleged that divisive forces are attempting to create communal disharmony and destabilize Punjab for their political benefits. Badal’ comments came a day after his party Shiromani Akali Dal offered legal aid to those arrested in the crackdown. In a Tweet, SAD President said “Unity and integrity of India is non negotiable.

@Akali_Dal_ strongly condemns divisive forces attempting to create communal disharmony and destabilise Punjab”. He added that Sikhs have always been in the forefront of making sacrifices for the nation. Badal also alleged that some political parties are playing politics for garnering votes in the next election. “Attempts are being made to malign this brave community for garnering votes in the next election. I assure all Punjabis that @Akali_Dal_ will fight for the safety of every community especially all minorities” he tweeted.

He also demanded that the “crackdown” against the Youth in Punjab must be stopped. “Repression & arrest of innocent youth under the garb of crackdown must be stopped immediately to tackle fear psychosis & unrest among Punjabis” he said. Badal also stated that with these arrests, the state’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is trying to defame the Sikh community to polarise voters and gain electoral ground. More than 150 people have been arrested in Punjab, the police said on Tuesday, as they continued to search for Amritpal Singh, a Khalistan sympathiser.
