Dhananjay Munde seeks aid for farmers

Mumbai, Aug 22 (Agency) Former Minister and NCP MLA Dhananjay Munde on Monday urged the Maharashtra government to provide aid to farmers affected by heavy rain that lashed the state. Raising the issue in the Assembly, Munde said soyabean crops in some districts including Beed, Latur and Osmanabad were heavily damaged by snails and, farmers who sowed three or four times did not even get their crops.

Maharashtra Agricultural Minister Abdul Sattar responding to Munde said a committee of five, comprising officers, experts, scientists and academics will be appointed under the chairmanship of the divisional commissioner to study and verify the damage caused by snails and provided help accordingly. Earlier the opposition party leaders staged a protest on the steps of the Vidhan Bhavan against the Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadanvis-led state government, seeking declaration of wet drought and help to flood-affected farmers. Led by Ajit Pawar and Ambadas Danve, they raised slogans.
