Tribute to National Flag designer Pingali Venkaiah

Tirupati, Aug 2 (Representative) To honor the 146th birth anniversary of eminent freedom fighter and designer of the Indian National flag, Pingali Venkaiah, the Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) Tirupati Chapter presented a floral tribute to his portrait at private hotel here on Tuesday. On this occasion, the Chapter Chairman Srinivasa Rao said that the entire country is celebrating Azadi ka Amruth Mahotsav and as per the Prime Minister’s call, everyone should hoist the national flag at their homes. On this occasion, the people of the country are remembering Pingali Venkaiah, the designer of the national flag, which is a matter of pride for all the Telugu people.

Pingali Venkaiah participated in various stages of the Indian national movement from 1906 to 1922, and was a major player in famous movements like Vande Mataram, Home Rule Movement and Andhra Movement. He said that he worked as a railway guard in Bengaluru and Madras and after that he worked as a plague officer in Bellary for some time. He said that he can speak Urdu and Japanese languages fluently. He said that Venkaiah, who graduated in Geology, had a special knowledge of diamonds and after the independence of the country, the government appointed Venkaiah as an advisor to the Department of Mineral Research. PRSI Tirupati Chapter Vice Chairman Dr GS Prasad, Secretary D Chandramohan, Treasurer Prof Chakravarty Raghavan, executive members RCK Raju, former Chairperson Dr Swarajyalakshmi and others participated in this program.
