One nation, one election an issue of national interest: Ex-Prez Kovind

Rae Bareli (UP), Nov 20 (Agency) Former President Ramnath Kovind on Monday stressed on conducting One Nation, One Election and said that it is an issue of national interest as it will save money and resources of the country. The former President, who was here to attend a private function in Shivaji Nagar here in Rae Bareli, said that One Nation, One Election should be conducted in the country as the money and resources of the nation that will be saved can be spent in public development works. While talking to the reporters before attending the private function in Telephone Nagar locality, he said that a high level committee has been constituted in this regard of which he is the Chairman. He said that reports of many committees have come regarding One Nation One Election.

Kovind said that there are reports from the Parliamentary Committee, NITI Aayog and Election Commission in which the need for this tradition has been reiterated. He said that the process of holding simultaneous elections will not put any burden on the government machinery and the exchequer. He said that he is working on this in collaboration with many people and taking their opinions and has discussed this matter with almost all political parties. He said that all political parties have supported it back and forth at one time or the other. The former President says that this is an issue of national interest, and he is making positive efforts on it. He said that if this process is implemented, it will have a positive impact and the public will benefit from it.
