NLC to enhance skill, capability, effectiveness of legislative leaders

Dehradun, June 2 (FN Agency) New Delhi, June 2 (Bureau) The National Legislators’ Conference will begin on June 15 in Mumbai, in which about 4300 legislators from across the country have been invited and in-depth discussions will be held for three days on various topics related to the legislature. This is a historic effort to create a first of its kind apolitical platform, which will witness an assemblage of about 2500 Members of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs) and Members of Legislative Councils (MLCs) from the length and breadth of the country, cutting across party lines to discuss on various successful models of development, good governance, successful case studies, innovative ideas and best legislative practices of all states. Nearly 2000 MLAs & MLCs have confirmed their participation at the conference as of now.

Such a conference is being organized for the first time in the country with an aim to create a strong networking between the legislators. This platform has been created for the legislators of different states of the country to communicate with each other, to learn from each other on the issues of good governance and to strengthen democracy. Many national and international eminent personalities, thought leaders, spiritual leaders, academic leaders, political leaders from all parties and media personalities have been invited to interact with the Legislators of Bharat on plethora of important subjects. The Conference will have three plenary sessions and 80 parallel sessions under different subjects and topics.

NLC is being guided by the former Speakers of Lok Sabha Smt. Sumitra Mahajan, Dr. Meira Kumar, Shri Manohar Joshi and Shri ShivrajPatil as patrons of the National Legislators’ Conference (NLC) and several Hon’ble Speakers of State Legislative Assemblies and Chairpersons of State Legislative Councils. Many former bureaucrats like former Chief Election Commissioners and former Secretary Generals of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are also guiding the NLC. NLC is envisioned by its convenor Shri. Rahul V Karad, and is being organized by MIT School of Government, Pune, founded by Shri Karad.

The real objective of this conference is to enhance the skill, capability, effectiveness, independence, integrity and policy making of legislative leaders, legislators and legislative staff in the States/Union Territories of India. One of the main objectives of the conference is to improve the mutual interaction between state legislatures and thinkers, promote mutual cooperation and enhance the quality of legislative performance. National Legislators’ Conference will be like a democracy carnival propagating the ethos of Bharat’s democracy in the world through Leadership transformation, Good Governance and Peace building.
