India strongly condemns Houthi ‘terror attack’ that killed two Indians

New Delhi, Jan 18 (FN Agency) External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday strongly condemned the “terror attack” launched by the Houthi rebels in Abu Dhabi that claimed the lives of two Indians, during his telephonic conversation with the UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. During the telephone call, the UAE Foreign Minister shared details of the drone attack launched by the Houthi rebels in Mussaffah in Abu Dhabi yesterday in which two Indians and a Pakistani national were killed and six others injured, including two Indians. The UAE Foreign Minister shared the details of the attack with EAM. He conveyed the deepest condolences of the UAE Government on the death of two Indians, a Ministry of External Affairs statement said. He assured that the UAE Government would extend the fullest support to the families of the deceased. His authorities are in continuous touch with the Indian Embassy in that regard.

“On his part, EAM condemned the terror attack in the strongest terms.” “He emphasized that in this day and age, such an attack on innocent civilians was completely unacceptable and against all civilized norms.” EAM appreciated the immediate assistance provided by UAE authorities to the Embassy in responding to this tragic situation. He conveyed India’s strong solidarity with UAE in the face of such an attack. “Given its principled position against terrorism, India will stand with UAE in international forums on this issue, he conveyed.” The Ministry of External Affairs is in contact with the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi regarding the return to India of the mortal remains of the deceased. The Embassy is coordinating with the families. They have also rendered all necessary assistance to those who sustained injuries. The EAM said in tweets: “Deeply appreciate receiving a call from UAE FM @ABZayed. “He expressed condolences for the Indian lives lost in the terror attack in UAE yesterday.

“Conveyed our strong solidarity with UAE in face of such unacceptable acts. “Our Embassy is working with UAE authorities to provide the fullest support to families of the deceased.” Earlier on Tuesday, the Indian Embassy in UAE said they have established the identities of the two Indians killed in the tanker explosion in Mussaffah caused by a Houthi drone attack, and that they are working with the UAE authorities for early repatriation of the bodies. In tweets, the Indian Embassy also said that two Indians were among the six persons who were injured in the incident on Monday. They have been discharged after treatment, it posted. It thanked the UAE government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation-UAE, and the Adnoc (Abu Dhabi National Oil Corporation) group for their support. The tanker explosions had occurred in ICAD 3, Mussaffah, near Mohamed bin Zayed City at around 10am. The Houthis have claimed responsibility for the attack.
