US: Mother of Michigan School shooting suspect texted boss not to fire her

Washington, Feb 9 (Agency) Hours after her 15-year-old son allegedly killed his fellow students at his Michigan High School, Jennifer Crumbley sent a text message to her owner requesting him not to fire her for what her son allegedly did in school. “I need my job,” she wrote to Andrew Smith, who is the owner of a real estate company where she works as marketing director, CNN reported.
“Please don’t judge me for what my son did, the message read. On November 30 last year, the 15-year-old had allegedly killed four fellow students and injured seven others, including a teacher, in a high school shooting in the US state of Michigan. The text took her boss by surprise given the tragic incident. “I thought she would be more worried about what was going on,” he was quoted as saying by the broadcaster. “I can’t even begin to understand what you’re going thru. I’m praying for you.

I asked Carolyn to text you some attorney recommendations,” he replied to her. Smith was appearing before a Michigan court on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing about November 30 text exchange between him and Jennifer who is accused of giving her son a firearm. The parents have each pleaded not guilty on four counts of involuntary manslaughter for their actions — or lack thereof — leading up to the shooting, according to CNN. The prosecutors argument is that the parents were negligent and unconcerned about others. However, Jennifer Crumbley’s defense attorney argued that she was the sole breadwinner in her family and was concerned about money to pay for attorney. The parents were accused of buying a gun for their son.
