Two notorious drug peddlers held in Kupwara, contraband recovered

Srinagar, Jun 6 (Agency) Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested two notorious drug peddlers and recovered contraband from them in north Kashmir district of Kupwara. A police spokesperson said a checkpoint was established at Vilgam, Handwara in Kupwara. “Police intercepted a vehicle at the checkpoint and during checking recovered 80 grams of charas,” he said. He said two people onboard the vehicle, identified as Mohammad Gulzar Mir and Shoib Ahmad Bhar, were immediately taken into custody. “A case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Vilgam and investigation initiated,” he said.

He said the accused Gulzar Ahmad Mir is a notorious drug peddler and has major role in involving people in drugs, especially the youths. “Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. People found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” he said. “Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” he added.
