Drug peddler arrested in Kulgam; contraband recovered

Srinagar, May 30 (Agency) Police on Sunday arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband from him in south Kashmir district of Kulgam. A police spokesperson said a police party during patrolling at Bonigam in Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway intercepted a person, identified as Rajesh Singh, son of Piyar Singh, resident of Dogra Kud, Udhampur. “During checking, officers were able to recover 500 grams of Poppy Straw from him,” he said, adding the accused was immediately taken into custody.

He said a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Qazigund and further investigation initiated. He said community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood, adding people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. “Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” he added.
