‘Small & Medium Newspapers have a stellar role in nation building’

Bhubaneswar, Jul 22 (FN Bureau) Small & Medium Newpapers not only played a pivotal role in bringing independence to our country but also had significance contribution in making India strong and vibrant. This was the observation of Biswabhusan Harichandan, Governor of Chhatishgarh while addressing as chief guest to the members of all India Small & Medium Newspapers Federation in Bhubaneswar on virtual mode.

Dr. Prasanna Kumar Patsahani, member of state planning board and former member of parliament, who was the guest of honour lauded the efforts of the Odisha unit of the federation for organising the convetion in a befitting manner. National President of the Federation Gurinder Singh said it is high time we get united and fight for our genuine rights. We are giving our best efforts for the development of our country and it is obligatary on the part of the government to extend full support so that Small & Medium Newspapers will be encouraged to work with enthusism and vigour.

The President of Odisha unit Sudhir Kumar Panda in his address averred “Newspapers are a social service or an Industry”. If Newspapers are considered as social service why should governments burden as with GST and other taxes increasing the financial strain on the Newspaper that strive to serve the greater good and keep citizens informed. If we are considered as an industry we bear the responsibility of generating employment for aspiring journalist and media proffesionals and at the same time contributing significantly to the state economy. Here the Government should create the right envirnment for growth and development of the Newspaper industry. Awards were also presented to jouralists for their contribution and dedication to the profession. A colourful souvenir comprising quality articles was also released by the chief guest. Members from different states of the country participated in the one day deliberations.
