Sensex drops 273.51 pts

Mumbai, Jul 27 (Agency) The BSE Sensex on Tuesday lost further by 273.51 pts to settle at 52,578.76 as selling pressure was seen in Health Care, Power, Energy and Utilities stocks. The Nifty too declined by 78 pts to 15,746.45. High volatility was witnessed during the day, as the Sensex opened higher by 143 pts to 52,995. It went up 172 pts to 53,024.70, days high. Later, it was tumbled down nearly 419 pts to 52,433.18, days low before closing at 52,578.76, sliding 273.51 pts from its previous close.

The Sensex registered days high and low at 53,024.70 and 52,433.18 pts respectively. The Nifty recorded days high and low at 15,881.55 sand 15,701 pts respectively. The sectoral indices like Health Care, Power, Energy and Utilities stocks dragged the market further. In scrips, Dr Reddy Lab was a major loser, down by 10.44 pc to Rs 4844.30 followed by Axis Bank, Kotak Bank, Sun Pharma and HDFC however, fresh buying in Tata Steel, Bajaj Finserv, SBI, Bajaj finance and Nestle India capped from further losses, broker said. The Mid Cap declined by 0.67 pc and Small Cap by 0.11 pc. In 30 scrips, 11 advanced while 19 declined.
