COVID-19: India records 12,899 cases

New Delhi, Feb 4 (Agency) With the detection 12,899 new Covid cases over the past 24 hours, the tally in the country reached 10,790,183, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Thursday. The death toll in the country mounted to 154,703 with 107 new fatalities being recorded over the past day. More than 10.48 million people have recovered since the start of the outbreak, while the COVID-19 case fatality rate stands at 1.43 per cent.

The country has recorded 17,824 discharges taking the total number of recoveries to 1,04,80,455, the national COVID-19 recovery rate now stands at 97.13 per cent, as per the health ministry update. According to the ICMR, 19,92,16,019 samples have been tested up to February 3 with 7,42,841 samples being tested on Wednesday.

India comes second in terms of the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, following the United States, with more than 26.55 million COVID-19 patients. The World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic on March 11. To date, more than 104.3 million people have been infected with the coronavirus worldwide, with over 2.26 million fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University.
