Reduce VAT on the petrol, diesel: Mayawati to states

Lucknow, May 22 (Agency) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Sunday demanded all the states, including Uttar Pradesh to reduce Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel following reduction in excise duty by the central government. Mayawati tweeted, “After a long time the Center has given some relief to the people, who are forced to live a miserable life due to rising inflation, poverty, unemployment and stress, in the prices of petrol and diesel.

Now it is the responsibility of the states, including UP, to consider the advice of the center and reduce VAT on petrol and diesel.” She said that the time has come when the center and the states should set aside their political interests and pay attention to national problems. “Now the time has come that the center and state governments should set aside political interest and mutual profit and loss and jointly pay proper attention to these national problems which are becoming serious day by day, so that life of the people can become normal,” Mayawati said.
