Congress demands cancellation of Huzurabad by polls

New Delhi, Oct 28 (FN Bureau) A delegation of Congress leaders from Telangana met Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra on Thursday and demanded the cancellation of the Huzurabad Assembly by-polls alleging violation of the model code of conduct. The delegation, comprising of party leaders Challa Vamshi Chand Reddy, Sravan Dasoju and H Venugopal Rao, submitted a memorandum and alleged money and liquor was being distributed by TRS and BJP. “It is disheartening to observe both ruling TRS and BJP parties are resorting to brazen abuse of power and obstructing the conduct of a free and fair election in By-election to Huzurabad (31) Assembly Constituency in Telangana demeaning the democracy,” the Congress said in a memorandum submitted to the Election Commission.

“We wish to submit that both TRS & BJP are resorting to illegal and shameless violation of Election Code of Conduct and unprecedented misuse of power, distribution of money and gifts in order to unduly influence voters in Huzurabad by election,” the Congress said. Congress said the Huzurabad bye-poll is considered as the most expensive election in the history of Indian democracy as both TRS and BJP are splurging money. “As the campaigning ended on Wednesday, TRS and BJP leaders are now distributing money covers with each cover containing Rs 6000 to 10,000 in each one,” they said. The party said conduct of a fair and free election in Huzurabad is completely ruled out and urged the Chief Election Commissioner to urgently intervene. The party leaders also shared a list of videos on social media which they said proved their allegations. Bye-polls in the Huzurabad of Telangana are to be held on October 30.
