Assam police DSP arrested for drug links

Guwahati, May 31 (Agency) A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Assam police in Dhubri was arrested on suspicion for alleged involvement in a drug cartel. Jotin Das, an officer of the Dhubri Police, was arrested early on the morning of Monday. The officer is believed to be involved with drug pushers and peddlers. Dhubri Superintendent of Police (SP) Gurav Abhijeet Dilip said that investigations into the matter of the arrested DSP are still ongoing.

“It is too early to claim that the DSP was involved in drug-related activities as investigations are still at an early state”, he said. As of May 30, a total of 20 drug-related cases have been registered across the state, together with 35 arrests. Overall, 469 grams of heroin, 574 kg of cannabis, almost 1500 psychotropic tablets and over Rs 20,000 in cash have been seized during these operations.
