Women Commission’s wants special arrangement for pregnant women

Imphal, May 3 (Agency) Prof. (Dr) Binota Meinam, Chairperson, Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW ) has urged the government of Manipur to arrange separate hospitals for pregnant women. She said the COVID-19 outbreak has placed unprecedented demands on the health system. All health facilities and workforce are currently inundated by a plethora of activities relating to controlling the pandemic she added. Pregnant women, undoubtedly have faced a lot of problems during COVID-19.

Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) wants the State Government to arrange any Hospital/Primary Health Centre, any Health Care Centre specially for child delivery and related cases in all the districts. Pregnant women can be easily contracted by virus by repeated visits to the hospitals for ante natal checkups and deliveries she said. Arrangements should be made for these women to deliver their babies in a hospitals(center even if they are undergoing treatment. Post deliveries arrangement and guidelines should also be set up as transmission of coronavirus through breast milk (close contact between mother and baby) from mother to child is also high. Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) also appealed to the State Government to provide medical attention to pregnant women who can’t hold the child delivery during lockdown. MSCW also asked the State Government for arrangement of centres for child delivery and centres for COVID infected pregnant women to all the districts of Manipur as pregnant women are a vulnerable group for Corona virus.
