New Delhi, June 28 (FN Agency) Sanyukt Rojgaar Andolan Samiti (SRAS) organised a “Rojgar Sansad” in Delhi on Monday to gain momentum ahead of their what they called ‘Satyagraha’ movement against the issue of unemployment, set to begin in mid-August.The one-day employment parliament saw participation from over 500 student bodies, youth organizations, women’s organizations, teachers’ organizations, trade unions, farmers’ unions and NGOs who pledged their support for the cause, SRAS said in a statement. The civil society group, backed by Desh Ki Baat Foundation, has planned a massive movement from August 16 to push the Centre for formulating a national employment policy. It believes that a policy-level change is needed to address the “soaring unemployment” in the country.”
All the organizations participating in the Employment Parliament feel strongly about the unemployment condition and put forth the need of the hour to implement the National Employment Policy. We will start a satyagraha movement against unemployment on August 16,” SRAS said.Krishna Yadav, National Coordinating In-charge, Desh Ki Baat Foundation, said the current measures of the government would not solve the mammoth unemployment unless taken a policy approach.”The unemployment has grown massively after India gained Independence. The successive governments have only been able to scratch the surface of the mammoth issue by creating jobs periodically. Now the situation has grown scarier in the pandemic era where lakhs of people lost their livelihood,” he said explaining the unemployment scenario of the country.
Yadav suggested that a national policy is urgently required to address the unemployment issue holistically.Speaking on the ‘Satyagraha’ movement, Yadav said that it would be kept apolitical and would be pursued as a “people’s movement”.”The movement is going to be apolitical, and all the civilians from nooks and corners of India will participate in it. It’s a people’s movement, and it’s about unemployment. We don’t want bigotry but employment,” he added.
