Hyderabad, Jan 19 (FN Agency) South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager Arun Kumar Jain on Thursday said the upgradation works, which have commenced at Nellore station in Andhra Pradesh are progressing well and this is being monitored at every stage. He also said that redevelopment of Railway station is taken up on priority basis and the work is being executed in prompt manner. A SCR release said Nellore Railway Station, located in Grand Trunk route, has been chosen under the concept of “Major Upgradation of Railway Stations” project to provide world class amenities with elegant features.
The station handling footfall of 30,000 passengers per day has got special importance with the number of rail users increasing day-by-day. Keeping in view all these factors, the station upgradation has been planned under EPC mode so as to handle both current as well as future passenger traffic. The release said SCR has awarded the Contract for undertaking this crucial work in August 2022 to M/s. SCL Infratech Limited., Hyderabad and it is targeted to complete within 21 months period, by May, 2024. The work has been commenced straight away and is progressing well. To start with, setting up of site offices, concrete testing lab, storage sheds for stacking of materials is completed.
The design submitted by agency for Major upgradation of Nellore Railway station is proof checked by IIT-Madras. Construction of temporary sheds for functioning of court and GRP offices is completed and is handed over to respective departments. Construction of 8 COP pedestals on 1st Platform, 4 pedestals each on 2nd and 4th Platforms is completed. Fabrication work of COP is in progress. Dismantling of old structures and excavation work is in progress. 250 Metric Tons of Steel is procured by the agency for the construction purpose, the release added.
