Arctic, Antarctica may loose ice caps due to global warming

Moscow, Jun 1 (Agency) The Arctic region and Antarctica could melt due to global warming, a top ranking Russian climate expert has said. The Special Representative of the Russian President on Climate Issues Ruslan Edelgeriyev told the Sputnik news agency.

“You know there are [climate] models that say – yes. This may happen. There is no exact data as different models provide different periods. However, in theory, there is a clear rationale that this may happen. The rising ocean level, the melting Arctic ice – this is an issue that has been studied a lot. There is a theory that confirms that such ice caps could melt,”

Scientists have repeatedly warned that the Earth is facing climate change due to rising planet temperature. Greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere speed up these changes, which lead to the ice melting and a rise in ocean levels.
