Thane, Jan 17 (Agency) A jewellery shop, located in the Vartak Nagar area of this city, has been robbed in a manner usually seen on the silver screen, police said on Sunday. As per the preliminary report, around 3 kg of valuables have been stolen, it stated, adding that final estimation is still underway. Borrowing from the plot of crime shows, the unidentified accused two months back rented a shop located next to their target store. Subsequently, the accused started the business of selling fruits in the shop which was given to them on a rent of Rs 28,000, stated police.
The owner didn’t bother to verify their credentials before closing the deal, it added. In the wee hours of Sunday, the accused drilled a hole into the jewellery store and stole the ornaments. The shocking discovery was made by the jeweller when he came to open his store in the morning. Upon getting the information, senior cops along with the Crime Branch officials rushed to the scene and detained the fruit shop owner for an interrogation. A manhunt has been launched to nab the robbers while the related CCTV footage are being scanned, police apprised.
