Mehat Pur villager arrested for illegal sand mining

Nakodar, May 19 (Agency) The Nakodar Sadar police have arrested a Mehat Pur villager for transporting sand illegally. The investigating officer (IO) Manjit Singh said that the accused has been identified as Ravindar S Singh alias Kaka a resident of Bangiwal village under Mehat Pur police station. IO said that his tractor-trolley loaded with sand was intercepted at a Naka but he could not produce any documents. IO said that a case under section 21 of the Punjab Mining Act and section 379(theft) of the IPC has been registered against the accused that was released on bail. The Shahkot police also booked Des Raj alias Soami a resident of Thamuwal village for illegal sand mining said, IO Harbhajan Lal. In another report from Phillaur said that Bilga police have arrested a woman on the charge of selling illicit country-made liquor.

The investigating officer (IO) Harnek Singh said that the accused has been identified as Shilo wife of Chhindar Pal a resident of Bhode Pur village.35 bottles of illicit country-made liquor were recovered from her possession. A case under section 61/1/14 of the excise act has been registered against the accused. In another incident the Mehat Pur police have arrested two farmers on the charge of burning wheat straw.The investigating officer (IO) Gursharan Singh said that the alleged accused have been identified as Sukhwindar Singh a resident of Bulanda village and Jaspal Singh a resident of Udhowal village.

IO said that the accused has put on fire their harvested wheat fields and violated the Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner’s order on the burning of wheat straw IO said the burning wheat straw produces several poisonous gases which cause harm to the health of people and pollutes the environment. The burning of the straw causes irreversible damage to the texture of soil and also kills nutrients in it. He said it also creates problems in the movement of traffic due to a thick layer of smog and could cause road mishaps. IO said that a case under section 188(disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant)) of the IPC has been registered against the accused that was released on bail.
