Chennai, July 14 (Agency) Customs officials seized 550 gms of gold valued at Rs 27.18 lakhs and arrested a passenger who arrived from Sharjah at the Anna International airport here today. A release from the Office of the Commissioner of Customs Airport said, based on intelligence, one Pazhanisamy Murugesan (27) of Unjini in Ariyalur district of Tamil Nadu, who arrived from Sharjah by Air Arabia flight, was intercepted at exit on suspicion of carrying gold. On his personal search, four bundles of gold paste weighing 648 gms were recovered from rectum. On extraction 550 gms of 24K purity gold worth Rs. 27.18 lakhs was recovered and the same was seized under Customs Act. The passenger was arrested. Further investigation is under progress.
