CBI arrests a Neuro Surgeon among five persons in bribery case

New Delhi, Mar 30 (Agency) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested five persons including a Neuro Surgeon posted at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi in an alleged bribery case. The Central probe agency registered a case on Wednesday against the accused on certain allegations including bribery, CBI said in a statement. As per FIR report, the accused have been identified as Dr Manish Rawat (Neuro Surgeon), Avnesh Patel, Manish Sharma, Deepak Khattar and Kuldeep. It was alleged that the Neuro Surgeon in conspiracy with others (acting as middlemen) including private persons, Proprietor of a private (Surgical) Shop at New Delhi was indulging in illegal activities and allegedly taking money for giving medical advice and conducting surgery of the patients and bypassing laid down rules regarding treatment in Safdarjung hospital, the statement said. It was further alleged that the said doctor directed the patients through these middlemen to purchase the instruments required for surgery from the surgical shop of the said proprietor.

It was also alleged that the accused compelled the patients to pay an amount for those instruments higher than the actual price and used to get a share in the over billing by the said shop, it said. It was further alleged that bribes of Rs 1.15 lakh, Rs.55 thousands and Rs.30 thousands were taken recently in three different instances from the attendants of patients of said doctor through a private person (middleman) in the bank account of another private person. The same was allegedly done at the directions of the said doctor. It was also alleged that the accused doctor was laundering his illegally earned money through companies, being managed by a private person, it added. Searches were conducted at various places including Delhi and Uttar Pradesh which led to recovery of incriminating documents and digital devices.
