3 notorious drug peddlers arrested in Kulgam

Srinagar, Jul 4 (Agency) Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested three notorious drug peddlers and recovered huge cache of contraband from them in south Kashmir district of Kulgam. A police spokesperson said following specific information, a checkpoint was established near Balsoo crossing in Kulgam. “Police intercepted a vehicle at the checkpoint and during checking recovered 130 Kgs of Poppy Straw, two grinding machines and a digital weighing machine,” he said. He said three people on board the vehicle – identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, Iqbal Ahmad Gani, both residents of Buchroo and Reyaz Ahmad Dar, a resident of Brazloo – were immediately taken into custody.

“A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Kulgam and further investigation into the case has been taken up,” he said. He said community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood, adding people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. “Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” he added.
