Mumbai, Aug 3 (Agency) The BSE Sensex on Wednesday rallied 214.17 points at 58,350.53 following gains in IT and technology stocks. The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) too rose 42.70 points at 17,388.15. The Sensex moved up 38 points at 58,174.11 in the opening session. It surged at 58,415.63, the day’s high, before closing at 58,350.53, up 214.17 points from its previous close. The Sensex registered the day’s high and low at 58,415.63 and 57,788.78 points respectively. The Nifty recorded the day’s high and low at 17,407.50 and 17,225.85 respectively. Sectoral indices like IT and technology stocks kept the market strong.
In scrips, Tech Mahindra was a major gainer, gaining 2.28 per cent to Rs 1,056 followed by Infosys by 1.69 per cent to Rs 1,589, TCS by 1.38 per cent to Rs 3,335.60 and Titan by 1.37 per cent to Rs 2,416.85. The losers were Maruti Suzuki by 2.26 per cent to Rs 8,960, Sun Pharma by 2.14 per cent to Rs 897.15, Kotak Bank by 1.75 per cent to Rs 1,851.40 and IndusInd Bank by 0.92 per cent to Rs 1,068. The Mid Cap fell by 0.60 per cent and Small Cap by 0.28 per cent.In 30 scrips, 17 advanced while 13 declined. The Asian Market was up as Hong Kong rose by 0.40 per cent, Japan by 0.53 per cent and Taiwan by 0.20 per cent.
