Domestic auto sales show robust growth

New Delhi, July 13 (Agency) Domestic automobile sales have registered a robust growth during the first quarter of the financial year 2022-23, according to a Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) report. The total passenger vehicles sales were 910,431 units in April-June 2022 against 6,46,272 vehicles during the same period last year. Passenger car sales were 4,11,441 units in the April-June quarter as against 3,37,191 units during the same period last year, the utility vehicle (UV) segment registered sales of to 4,64,558 as compared to 2,86,092 units in the corresponding period last year.

In two wheeler segment, 24,05,228 units of motorcycles were sold as against 17,40,308 units in April-June 2021, while 12,07,903 units of scooters were sold during the quarter as compared with 6,04,291 units in the same period last year. In the three-wheeler category, 76,293 units of three wheelers were sold as against 24,522 units in the same period in 2021, the SIAM data showed. Commenting on Q1 performance, Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM said, “In Quarter-1 this year, sales in the passenger vehicle segment stood at 9.1 lakh units, in two wheeler segment 37.25 lakh units, in three-wheeler segment 76,000 units and in commercial vehicle segment 2.25 lakh units.” ”Recently the government has taken significant measures to ease the inflationary pressure and help the common man by reducing central excise duty on petrol and diesel and changing the duty structure to moderate prices of steel and plastic. The Indian Automobile Industry appreciates and thanks the government for these efforts. Industry also keenly looks forward to similar support on CNG prices which has seen exponential increase in the last 7 months. Support on CNG prices would help the common man, facilitate public transport and will enable a cleaner environment,” he said.
