Hyderabad, Mar 2 (FN Representative) Eminent Scientist, Padma Shri Seyed Ehtesham Hasnain has said that “Covid-19 would stay with us for longer time” and precautions needed to be taken aptly. He said this while delivering an online lecture, organized by School of Sciences (SoS), Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in connection with National Science Day on February 28, a release here said on Tuesday.
Hasnain, also the honorary professor of IIT Delhi, spoke on the topic “Biological Sciences will dominate all branches of Human Enquiry in this Century and perhaps beyond?” as the chief guest of the programme. In his lecture, Prof Hasnain shed light on several new innovations and discoveries of sciences in general and convinced that Biology in particular will dominate other sciences in the 21st century and perhaps beyond. He detailed how DNA sequencing, Epigenetics, Stem cells, Next generation sequencing, gene editing, cloning and 3D organ printing related research would revolutionaries all walks of life. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resolve, he said the country would successfully eradicate Tuberculosis by 2025.
His talk also highlighted the significance of Science-Day which is the commemoration of the discovery of Raman Effect in 1928 for which Sir CV Raman was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930. Prof S M Rahmatullah, Vice-Chancellor I/c in his presidential address thanked Prof. Hasnain for his content rich and thought provoking lecture. The Guest of Honour, Prof Siddiqui Mohd. Mahmood, Registrar I/c emphasised on the importance of wisdom and its intimate relationship with the value system. Prof Rahmatullah and Prof Siddiqui announced the winners of a video clipping competition organized by the SoS on the NSD-2021 theme “Future of Science, Technology & Innovation (STI): Impacts on Education, Skills, and Work”. They congratulated the winners and encouraged the students to participate in such competitions.
