Mangaluru, Jan 31(Agency) Customs officials at the Mangalore International Airport (MIA) arrested a Kasaragod based smuggler on his arrival from Dubai and seized from him gold worth Rs 30 lakhs. Based on intelligence and surveillance, customs sleuths intercepted Mashkoor Kallar who arrived by Air India flight on Saturday night. During search, the passenger was found to have concealed gold in paste form in his rectum.
Gold weighing 0.587kg of 24k purity and valued at Rs 30 lakhs was seized from him. Commissioner of Customs, Imamuddin Ahmed, IRS has commended the persistent vigil maintained by the Mangalore Air Customs team lead by Deputy Commissioner Dr Kapil Gade, IRS and officers including Superintendent Preeti Suma, for their consistent efforts for checking smuggling.
